On November, 12th Minsk Palace of Sports hosted the Pahlavani Wrestling World Championship!
The competition was attended by over 200 participants in 6 weight categories from 45 countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cuba, Estonia, France, Georgia, Hungary, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, United States and Uzbekistan.
The organizers of the Pahlavani Wrestling World Championship, paying tribute to the friendship of the great fighters Gholamreza Takhti and Alexander Medvedev were Pahlavani International Wrestling Federation and the Iranian Wrestling Federation. Responsibility for the World Championship in Minsk, with the support of the National Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus Minsk City Executive Committee, assumed the Belarusian Public Association of Traditional Wrestling Sports, headed by three-time Olympic champion Alexander Medved.
Coshti or Coshti PAHLAVANI – is the common name of traditional combat in ancient Persia and modern Iran, which is the most revered in Iran sport and has very ancient history.
Since ancient times, the wrestling was part of the complex of traditional martial arts Persians called Varzesh-e Pahlavani, which was formed during the time of the Parthian Empire. The ancient Greek historian and writer Xenophon after visiting Persia during the reign of Darius I was surprised to note that exercises and wresling involved all the young people without exception.
Today pahlavani – a modern fighting style, adapted to modern conditions of competition in the framework of the International Wrestling Federation (United World Wrestling) Pahlavani at first glance similar to the Olympic freestyle wrestling. A distinctive feature in the form of – wear special pants over tights wrestling and tie belt, which greatly affects the efficiency of the fight and the match time.
